Preparation:
About 2 hours before serving or early in day:
Preheat oven to 275F degrees. Grease 15 1/2" by 10 1/2" jelly-roll pan. Into large bowl, measure all ingredients except egg white and walnuts. With mixer at low speed, beat ingredients just until blended, occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Increase speed to medium; beat until well mixed. Pat dough evenly into pan.
In cup, beat egg white slightly; brush over top of dough and sprinkle with walnuts.
Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes or until golden. Immediately cut crosswise into 12 strips, then cut each strip into 4 pieces to make 48 bars in all. Remove bars from pan to cool on wire racks. Store in tightly covered container.
Makes 4 dozen bars.
