Preparation:
Before adding vegetables, pour fat drippings from roasting pan into bowl.
Add 1 cup water to pan; boil. Remove well-browned bits left in pan (adds
flavor to gravy). Spoon fat from drippings into a skillet, allowing 2 tbls.
fat for each cup gravy desired. Stir in equal amounts of flour; cook until
flour is lightly browned. Add 1 c. water for each 2 tbls. flour, using
water from roasting pan. Crush gingersnaps to a powder by rolling with
rolling pin. Stir and cook for 5 minutes until gravy is smooth and
thickened. This will give the gravy an additional rich brown flavor, and
surprise you because it is so good. |
