Preparation:
Heat oven to 450 F. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Cut
in
shortening with a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles
coarse
corn meal. Make a well in center of mixture. Add milk all at once and mix
lightly with a fork until a soft dough is formed. Knead dough lightly on
floured board about 6 times. Handle dough lightly. Roll out to thickness
of
1/2 inch. Flour a 2 inch biscuit cutter and cut biscuits close together.
Pat
together scraps of dough and cut out. Place biscuits on ungreased cookie
sheet about 1 inch apart for crusty sides, or close together for soft sides.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown. Makes about 12 (2 1/2 inch)
biscuits. |
