Serves: 60

Ingredients:

6 cups white flour
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk -- (or soured milk)
2 teaspoons dry yeast -- (or 1 package)
3 tablespoons almost hot water-- (95-105 degrees f)
6 cups white flour
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk -- (or soured milk)
2 teaspoons dry yeast -- (or 1 package)
3 tablespoons almost hot water -- (95-105 degrees f)

Preparation:

Sift dry ingredients, then cut in shortening. Add buttermilk. Dissolve yeast in water and add to mixture. Knead lightly on floured surface. Roll out to 1/2", cut with biscuit cutter and bake on greased cookie sheet at 450 F about 10-12 minutes. Dough may be stored in the refrigerator, pinching off as much as is needed each time, or may be cut and then frozen. (our) Variation: 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour plus 3 cups white flour may be used. (Their) Note: A family friend gave me this recipe when I married. Included was this note: "Cut and freeze these biscuits in foil pans. Place them in a cold oven at night. Next morning, turn oven to 450F when the bacon starts frying. Presto! Hot biscuits for breakfast!"
