upside down pear-spiced cake

this recipe make a 16 slice rich sponge cake with a caramel topping with glaze the sides of the cake. the cake has a rich dark brown colour and has a soft spongy texture on the inside.
 

Ingredients:

3 medium pears
1/2 pound butter softened
2 cups granulated sugar
3 cups flour
3 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 large eggs
 

Preparation:

wash pears and slice thinly andplace in water with afew drops of lime preheat oven to 350 cream butter and sugar until fluffy and pale and egss one at a time about a minute after each addition sift dry ingridents and seperate into 3 sections alternately add flour mixture and milk ending with flour grease and line a 9in pan srinkle with brown sugarand arrange pear slices pour cake batter over pear slices and bake foe 45 minutes or until skewer come out clean
