Preparation:
1. For syrup, combine sugar, water, cinnamon and clove. Bring to a boil and simmer 15 minutes; set aside.
2. Cover bottom of a buttered 2-quart casserole with a layer of toasted cubes; add a layer each of apples, raisins, almonds and cheese.
3. Repeat until all ingredients are used, reserving 1/4 cup cheese.
4. Remove cinnamon and clove from syrup; pour syrup over all.
5. Cover casserole; bake in preheated 350 F. oven 30 minutes.
6. Uncover; sprinkle with reserved cheese.
7. Bake an additional 15 minutes; serve hot. |
