Preparation:
Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening, and salt; cool to lukewarm. Add 1 1/2 cups flour; beat well with mixer. Beat in yeast and egg. Gradually add remaining flour by hand to form a soft dough. Place in greased bowl; turn once. Cover and let rise until double-- 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Turn out and shape as desired (I like Parkerhouse best). Place on buttered baking sheets and brush with additional melted butter. Let rise (about 1 hour). Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
These rolls may be shaped and then frozen on the baking sheets. Once frozen, place into plastic freezer bags and seal well. To prepare, remove
from freezer and place on buttered baking sheets. Allow to rise (will take about 4 hours from frozen).
I've used this recipe for as long as I can remember, and the only time it ever failed me was when I left out the salt." I think it's goof-pr |
