Sweet-Sour Meatballs

Ingredients:

  1              pound  ground beef
     1/2         pound  sausage
  2          teaspoons  soy sauce
  1              clove  garlic -- minced
     3/4           cup  cracked wheat -- uncooked
  5             ounces  water chestnuts -- drained, diced
  1           teaspoon  ginger
  1        small   can  crushed pineapple -- drained - save
                        -- juice
  1                     egg
     1/2      teaspoon  salt
  3        tablespoons  vinegar
                        **SAUCE**
     1/2           cup  brown sugar
  2          teaspoons  soy sauce
  1                     beef bouillon cube
     1/2      teaspoon  salt
  3        tablespoons  vinegar
  2        tablespoons  cornstarch with 1 cup water
 

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients and form into meatballs placing them in a 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350*F for 20 minutes. While they are baking, combine sauce ingredients. Add enough water to reserved pineapple juice to make 1 1/2 c. liquid and combine with sauce ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thick. Pour over meatballs and cook 5 minutes more in oven. Makes 30 to 40 meatballs.
