  1                     Onion -- finely diced
  2             Strips  bacon -- finely diced
                        Or: 1/2 c finely diced ham
  2        centiliters  Garlic -- minced
  16            ounces  Chicken broth
  1       16 ounces Ca  Italian tomatoes -- crushed
  1       15 1/2 ounce  Great Northern Beans
  1                cup  Freshly grated Romano cheese
  1         tablespoon  Fresh parsley -- chopped
                        Or: 1/4 tsp. dried
     1/4      teaspoon  Salt
     1/4      teaspoon  Black pepper
     1/4      teaspoon  Oregano
     1/4      teaspoon  Crushed red pepper
     1/2           cup  Alphabets or other tiny Pasta
 

Preparation:

Directions In a 2 quart stockpot over medium heat saut‚ bacon til tender, add onion and garlic. Reduce heat to medium-low and saut‚ until onion is translucent and bacon browns. Add chicken broth and crushed tomatoes and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Add beans, cheese, parsley, pepper, oregano and crushed red pepper. Simmer 3 to 4 minutes. Meanwhile in a saucepan boil pasta according to directions to al dente stage (cooked to a point where the pasta is tender but slightly underdone if you were cooking for sauce). Drain pasta and add cooked pasta to soup. You won't believe how easy this is and how wonderful it tastes!
