Preparation:
Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Add onion, garlic cloves; cook over medium heat until tender. Add wine, tomatoes in puree, sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Add basil and Parmesan cheese. Add Mushrooms and olives if used.
If you can't get hold of fresh basil, a mixture of fresh parsley and a little dried basil is a good substitut |
