Ingredients:

     1/2  cup           whole wheat flour
     1/2  cup           all-purpose flour
   1      cup           raw oats
     1/2  cup           brown sugar -- firmly packed
     1/2  teaspoon      salt
     1/4  teaspoon      baking soda
   1 1/2  teaspoons     apple pie spice
   1 1/2  cups          grated -- unpeeled apples
   1                    egg
     1/3  cup           light corn syrup
   2      tablespoons   vegetable oil
     1/2  cup           raisins or currents -- optional
     1/2  cup           chopped nuts -- optional
 

Preparation:

1.In medium-size mixing bowl, combine flours, oats, brown sugar, salt, soda and spice. Add remaining ingredients, mixing until thoroughly combined. Spread evenly in 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan sprayed with no-stick cooking spray. 2.Bake in 350 F. oven about 25 minutes or until light golden brown and wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack. Cut into bars about 3x2 inches. Store tightly covered in refrigerator.
