Orange Slice Bars

Ingredients:

  1              pound  orange slices (like gum drops )
  6        tablespoons  hot water
     1/2           cup  margarine -- softened
  2 1/4           cups  brown sugar
  4                     eggs -- beaten
  2 1/2           cups  flour
  2          teaspoons  baking powder
     1/2      teaspoon  salt
  1           teaspoon  vanilla
     1/2           cup  chopped nuts ( optional )
                        powdered sugar
 

Preparation:

Cut orange slices in 8ths, add hot water and let stand overnight. Next day cream margarine and brown sugar; stir in beaten eggs. Sift flour; add baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in orange slices and water they were soaked in. Add vanilla and chopped nuts. Place in greased 15 x 10 x 1" jelly roll pan. bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still hot. When cool cut into bars.
