Hot Fudge Sundae Cake Pudding

Ingredients:

  1                cup  all-purpose flour
  2          teaspoons  baking powder
     1/4      teaspoon  salt
     3/4           cup  sugar
  2 1/2    tablespoons  cocoa
     1/2           cup  milk
  2        tablespoons  shortening -- melted
  1           teaspoon  vanilla extract
  1                cup  chopped pecans or walnuts
     3/4           cup  firmly packed brown sugar
     1/4           cup  cocoa
  1 3/4           cups  water
  1              quart  vanilla ice cream
 

Preparation:

Combine first 8 ingredients, stirring until blended. Stir in pecans. Spread mixture into a lightly greased 9-inch square pan. Sprinkle mixture with brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa; pour water over mixture. (Do not stir.) Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. To serve, cut into squares, and invert each square onto an individual dessert dish. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and spoon sauce remaining in the pan over top. Makes 9 servings.
