Ingredients:

  1           kilogram  dried mixed fruit
  225            grams  glace cherries
  300      milliliters  stout
  150      milliliters  whisky
  150      milliliters  orange juice
  1                     orange -- zest of
  3        tablespoons  black treacle
  250            grams  unsalted butter -- slightly softened
  250            grams  soft brown sugar
  5                     eggs -- lightly beaten
  350            grams  plain flour
  1 1/2      teaspoons  baking powder
  2          teaspoons  allspice
  100            grams  brazil nuts -- halved
                        Marzipan and Royal icing for decoration
 

Preparation:

1 Line the cake tin. In a large pan, place the dried fruit, cherries, stout, whisky, orange juice, zest and treacle, and bring to the boil. 2 Simmer gently for 10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and beat together until smooth. Fold in the boiled fruit. 3 Spoon the mixture into the prepared cake tin and level the top. Bake for 3 1/2-4 hours. Cool in the tin, remove and decorate.
