Ingredients:

   1      28 ounce can  Italian tomatoes -- crushed (by hand)
     1/4  cup           olive oil
     1/2  cup           red wine
   1      large         onion chopped
   1      teaspoon      dried sweet basil
   3      cloves        garlic -- minced
     1/2  teaspoon      oregano -- dried
   2      tablespoons   tomato paste
     1/2  cup           water
  28      ounces        tomato puree
                        salt and pepper to taste
 

Preparation:

Sauté‚ the garlic in the olive oil until lightly browned. Add the onion and sauté‚ for one minute more. Add all other ingredients and simmer 2 hours stirring often to prevent sticking.
