Double Fudge Saucepan Brownies

Ingredients:

     1/2           cup  sugar
  2        tablespoons  butter or margarine
  2        tablespoons  water
  2               cups  hershey's semi sweet chocolate chips -- 12oz pkg divided
  2                     eggs -- slightly beaten
  1           teaspoon  vanilla extract
     2/3           cup  all-purpose flour
     1/4      teaspoon  baking soda
     1/4      teaspoon  salt
     1/2           cup  chopped nuts -- optional
 

Preparation:

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease square pan, 9 x 9 x 2 inches. In medium saucepan over low heat cook sugar, butter and water, stirring constantly until mixture boils. Remove from heat; immediately stir in 1 cup chocolate chips, stirring until melted. Stir in eggs and vanilla until blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to chocolate mixture. Stir in remaining 1 cup chips and nuts, if desired. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely in pan; cut into squares. About 16 brownies.
