Baked Heart

Ingredients:


1 large beef heart

1 teaspoon salt and pepper

2 cups seasoned dressing

1 can onion soup

8 ounces tomato sauce

2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce

1 large bay leaf

6 small onions

4 medium carrots -- halved

2 cloves garlic to taste
 

Preparation / Directions:


Wash heart thoroughly; remove veins and arteries. Rub inside and outside with salt and pepper; fill with favorite seasoned dressing. Sew or skewer; brown in roast pan in hot fat. Add soup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce and garlic; place bay leaf on top. Cover pan. Bake in 300F oven until tender about 3 hours and 20 minutes. Place onions and carrots around heart; bake for 40 minutes longer. Thicken gravy, if desired. Add water, if needed, during baking; remove bay leaf before serving. Serve wtih butter noodles or mashed potatoes.
