Pennsylvania Applesauce Bread

Ingredients:


2 Cup sifted flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 Cup shortening

3/4 Cup sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cups applesauce

1/2 Cup chopped walnuts (optional)
 

Preparation / Directions:


Sift together dry ingredients. Cream shortening; add sugar and cream well. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients gradually. Add applesauce and walnuts, mixing just enough to wet all ingredients. Pour into well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch baking pan. Let rise 20 minutes. Bake in 350 F oven for 55 minutes to one hour.
