Coffee Bean Brownies

Ingredients:


1/2 cup butter -- (1 stick)

2 tablespoons cocoa

1/4 cup milk

1/2 cup butter -- (1 stick)

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup strong brewed coffee

1/2 cup kahlua -- tia maria, or any type of coffee liqueur

2 cups all purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

1/4 cup cocoa

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 1/2 cups unsifted powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 tablespoons chocolate covered espresso beans
 

Preparation / Directions:


Preheat oven to 400 degrees. For frosting: in saucepan, combine butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to a boil. Stir in vanilla and powdered sugar until frosting reaches proper consistency. Brownies: in another saucepan, combine butter, shortening, coffee and liqueur. Stir, let boil. In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and sugar. Pour butter- - shortening over the flour and sugar in bowl. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Pour into well buttered 17and1/2-by-11-in. Jelly roll pan. Bake until brownies test done in center. Frost brownies immediately. Garnish with espresso beans. Let cool until ready to eat, then cut into bars to serve.
