Preparation / Directions:Sprinkle soda over the chopped dates, add the boiling coffee, cool. Cream butter with 1/2 cup sugar, add egg, remaining sugar, coffee, dates, nuts, salt and flour sifted with baking powder twice. Bake in a moderate oven (375 F) 30 to 35 minutes. Spread with a Coffee Butter Frosting.
