Grandma Evelyn's Devil's Food Cake

Ingredients:


--combine in saucepan:--

3 ounces chocolate -- melt over hot water

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup milk

--cook until thick -- then cool.--

--blend together:--

1/2 cup shortening -- melted

1 cup sugar

2 large eggs -- beaten

--add to chocolate mixture.--

--sift together:--

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

--add sifted dry ingredients alternately -- with:-- -

1 cup milk

--add:--

1 teaspoon soda dissolved in:

1 tablespoon water

1 teaspoon vanilla
 

Preparation / Directions:


Bake in well greased tube pan with heavy waxed paper cut to fit the bottom, for one hour at 350 degrees. Or, steam in pudding molds filled 2/3 full and tightly covered, for about 3 hours. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or foamy sauce. This amount
