Old Fashioned Nutmeg Cake

Ingredients:


---Cake:

1/4 Cup butter or margarine

1/4 Cup shortening

1 1/2 Cup sugar

3 large eggs -- beaten

2 Cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 Cup buttermilk or sour milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

---Frosting:

6 tablespoons melted butter

2/3 Cup packed brown sugar

1/4 Cup cream or canned milk

1 dash salt

1 Cup shredded coconut

1/2 teaspoon vanilla
 

Preparation / Directions:


Cake: Cream sugar, butter, and shortening. Add eggs; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to shortening mixture alternately with buttermilk or sour milk. Add vanilla. Bake at 350 degrees. Bake 2 (9inch) layers for 25 minutes. Bake 1 (13x9 inch) pan for 30-40 minutes. Frosting: Mix all ingredients. Spread on hot cake and put under broiler for a few minutes until golden color. Watch carefully.
