Upside-Down Pear Gingerbread

Ingredients:


---TOPPING---

2 tablespoons butter -- melted

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 medium pears -- peeled and sliced

---CAKE---

1 large egg

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup butter -- melted

1/4 cup fancy molasses

1 1/4 cups flour

2 teaspoons ginger

1 teaspoon cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 dash nutmeg

1 dash cloves
 

Preparation / Directions:


1. Spread butter in 8 inch round cake pan; sprinkle with sugar. Arrange sliced pears, overlapping, in circle to cover pan. 2. Cake: In bowl, beat egg, sugar, buttermilk, butter and molasses. Stir together flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg and cloves; stir into buttermilk mixture just until moistened. 3. Pour over pears. Bake at 375 F for 50-55 minutes or until tester comes out clean. Let cool on rack for 15 mintues; invert on platter.
