Strawberry Shortcake

Ingredients:


2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 cup margarine -- softened

1 large egg -- beaten

2/3 cup skim milk

2 pints strawberries -- sliced

1 package light whipped topping -- optional
 

Preparation / Directions:


In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in margarine until mixture forms coarse crumbs. Add the egg and milk; mix well. Spread into an 8-in. square baking pan coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cut into squares; top with strawberries and whipped cream if desired.
