Gramma Jo's Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients:


15 ounces tomato sauce

30 ounces whole tomatoes

8 ounces tomato paste

1 medium onion, yellow or white -- diced

6 cloves garlic, fresh -- minced

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

3 tablespoons basil
 

Preparation / Directions:


Add the 2 cans of whole tomatoes with their liquid to a large non-aluminum pot and crush them with a potato masher. Cook covered for 30-60 minutes over low heat. Add the tomato paste and sauce and cook for another hour or so. Saute the onion and garlic in olive oil for a few minutes and add to the sauce along with the pepper flakes and basil. Cook covered for an additional 60 minutes. Meat for Sauce: Add about 2 pounds of meat to the above sauce recipe. You can use beef stew meat, pork roast or sausage. Brown the meat in some olive oil and a teaspoon of garlic powder until well browned on the outside. Add to the meat and cook for at least 2 hours.
